1. Soprattutto, mi sento meglio.

2. Mi sto divertendo molto con vecchi e nuovi amici.

3. Sono riuscita a rinnovare un po' il soggiorno e sono molto soddisfatta!

4. Sto seguendo un corso di swing e lindy hop con il mio compagno (!!!)

5. ho ancora in mente tanti progetti da realizzare...

Ora devo smontare l'albero e sistemare un po'... questa feste sono state davvero movimentate...

Spero abbiate avuto anche voi un buon inizio!

Qualche piccola variazione in casa mia....

da buon bastian contrario ho poi optato per il buffet Hemnes Ikea (chiedo sempre consigli e poi faccio di testa mia, ndr), il contrasto con la vecchia piattaia e la credenza credo funzioni...

e la stanza è decisamente molto più ariosa.

Some little changes in my home...

in the end I choose the Ikea Hemnes Buffet (I always ask for advices and then I decide not to follow them), I quite like the contrast with the old furniture in my livingroom, i think it works...

The room is now much more airy and light.

Starsene al calduccio - Keeping warm and cozy

Brrr... a quanto pare l'inverno è arrivato ragazze, l'aria si è fatta davvero freddina dalle mie parti;

è tempo di tirare fuori calzettoni, maglioni, sciarponi, piumoni.

Sembra ieri che me ne andavo in ciabatte pigramente verso il mare, vestitino di lino e borsa di paglia, sbuffando per l'afa.

Il tempo passa sempre più velocemente!

Benvenuto inverno...e cosa c'è di più bello di starsene al calduccio durante queste fredde serate

aspettando il Natale...

Brrr...looks like winter is here, girls! The air is getting quite cold overhere; is time for wool socks, knits, scarves and quilts.

Seems like yesterday when I used to walk lazily to the beach with my flip flops in my linen dress and my straw bag complaining about the heat.

Times goes by so quickly!

Decorazioni - Decorations

Adoro il lavoro manuale e creativo, quest'anno molte delle decorazioni natalizie per la casa e per l'albero le sto facendo da me con materiali di recupero e naturali, e le abbinerò a quelle che già possiedo. Manca un mese a Natale, sembra un secolo ma sono sicura che il tempo volerà...

Tempo permettendo mi piacerebbe poter fare anche alcuni dei regali in casa, dei biscotti ad esempio, da distribuire alle amiche. Non mi piace l'aspetto commerciale del Natale, vivendo in un periodo di crisi economica credo che il consumismo sfrenato e lo spreco siano assolutamente da evitare.

Certo anche a me piace fare spese, ma senza esagerare, è più bello vivere la festa nella propria casa con uno spirito natalizio più autentico.

This year i'm making the Xmas decoration myself with natural and recycled materials, and I will be mixing and matching them with the ones i already own. I love DYI.

It's a month before Xmas and i know it seems a long time but i am sure the time will fly...

If i have time i would like to make some of the presents at home from scratch,

something like cookies to give to my friends.

I don't like the commercial side of Xmas, we're living in a economical crisis time and i think that consummerism and waste are to avoid.

Of course i like shopping, but i won't be buying too much, cause I think is nicer to celebrate with a more authentic spirit.

Sulla destra potete vedere la libreria nera Billy che vorrei sostituire con un mobile bianco, gli spazi sono piccolini quindi vorrei ottimizzarli il più possibile. Possediamo un enorme quantità di libri quindi non possiamo fare a meno di una soluzione che possa contenerli.

Giocherellando un po' con un programma online (roomsketcher) ho ipotizzato due alternative...

Che ne dite?

On the right you can see the black Billy I would like to substitute with a white piece of furniture, the livingroom is quite small and I would like to make it look larger. We own a large amount of books so we're looking for a storage solution as well.

Playing with a online software (roomsketcher) I made two different sketches...

Sto scoprendo quanto è terapeutico per il mio umore prendermi cura della casa, curare i dettagli, circondarmi di cose che amo. Non credo sia un discorso superficiale, spesso non si tratta di cose costose ma di piccoli oggetti scelti con attenzione per creare un ambiente accogliente, dove mi sento a mio agio e dove tutto oltre che piacevole alla vista è anche funzionale.

Non sono una perfezionista tuttavia, se c'è qualche cosa fuori posto perché la casa è vissuta

non ne faccio un grande problema, bisogna vivere in un ambiente rilassato e non in un museo.

Ora che si va incontro alla stagione più fredda questo bisogno si fa più grande e a volte bastano pochi gesti, come un plaid sul divano, alcune candele accese e una tisana speziata per creare la giusta atmosfera.

I'm finding very therapeutic for my mood to take care of my home, to pay attention to details and to surround myself with things I love. I don't think it is superficial, often it's about small things, not expensive things, selected with care to create a cosy enviroment, where I can feel comfortable and where everyhting is functional other than pleasant.

I'm not a perfectionist though, if there is something out of place is not a big issue, one should

live in a relaxed enviroment and not in a museum.

Now that we're welcoming the cold season this need is stronger and little things like a throw on the sofa, some candles and a hot cup of a spicy drink can create the right atmosphere.

Old & New

Un arazzo del 1800... a casa mia? Strano ma vero.

Un regalo da parte di mia suocera, amante di tutto ciò che è antico.

E' stato recuperato dallo zio del mio compagno in una chiesa un po' di tempo fa e fatto restaurare,

non credo abbia un grandissimo valore ma io lo trovo molto bello.

Il resto della camera con la maggior parte dei mobili nuovi forse è un po' in contrasto,

ma devo dire che l'effetto finale non mi dispiace,
Si può sempre migliorare ma per ora devo stare calma con le spese fino a Natale ^__^'
quindi resta tutto così!

A tapestry from 1800 in my home? Strange but true.

It's a present from my mother in law, she loves antiques.

My spouse's uncle found it in a church some time ago and he had it restored,

i don't think is worth a lot but i find it very pretty.

The rest of the bedroom furniture is mostly new, but I quite like that contrast...
I could improve it though, but i have to be be careful with money until Xmas ^__^'

no big changes for now!

il piano di lavoro sempre un po' incasinato

e qualcosa di bianco.

and something white.

Non c'è nulla di perfetto; fortunatamente la casa è degli anni cinquanta

e le piastrelle a mosaico originali gli danno un aria caratteristica.

Non abbiamo avuto modo di comprare una cucina nuova

e quindi c'è un mix di diversi mobili (la credenza è stata ridipinta di bianco da me)

ed al posto dei pensili abbiamo montato le mensole di legno a vista.

Sicuramente ci sarà bisogno di dare una rinnovata

prima o poi, ma amo la mia piccola cucina anche così com'è...

è il cuore della casa.

Nothing perfect, really... we live in a 50s home and the original tiles give
to the room a charateristic feel fortunately.
We didn't have the opportunity to buy a new kitchen
so there is a mix of different furniture (I painted the cabinet in white)
and wood open shelves.
We will need to make a renovation at some point but I still love my little kitchen as it is...

it's the heart of the house.

Finalmente un po' di riposo...sono stata super impegnata questa settimana, fra lavoro, compleanni e casa non ho avuto un attimo di pace.

Si, non avete le allucinazioni, sto scrivendo anche in italiano, mi sembrava doveroso! ;)

Ecco un po' di foto della mia sala, dove con varie piante e bulbi ho creato una specie di minuscolo "giardino d'inverno". Spero vi piaccia.

Ora mi rilasso un po' in compagnia di queste due riviste che ho comparato stamattina, vi consiglio di dare un'occhiata in edicola se vi piace il natale in stile scandinavo...

A little bit of rest, finally...

I have been very busy this week at work , at home and with family birthdays.

Yes, as you can notice I started writing my blog in Italian too! ;)

Here's my living room where I created a kind of little"jardin d'hiver"

with plands and bulbs, hope you like it.

Now i'm going to relax with two italian magazines, they're full of interesting images, decorations ideas and recipes for a scandnavian style Xmas.

Little restoration

I found this drawer at the thrift shop, it is not very old but was in need of a little restoration.

I cleaned it very well and I fixed the handles to the drawers with glue.

I like the industrial and rustic touch that zinc and wood objects give to the home.

Good storage solution for my compact creative workspace!

Baking Bread

Today I'm baking my own bread, what a joy to smell the fragrant little buns

and eat them when they are still warm!

I'm starting to enjoy my "long" week end,

i'm off from work on monday and tuesday and i'm trying to make the most of it...

I wont go to a SPA or on vacation...

But I will just stay home and relax

I'll spend my free time with by beloved ones looking after them,

cooking and eating scrumptious meals,

having fun with my friends,

and still...organizing my little space, decorating, creating, taking pictures...

Belle Blanc - the book

I just couldn't resist to buy this book: Belle Blanc - by Mirjana Schnepf and Bianca Aurich
When I disovered the blog Belle Blanc and other similar blogs (see blogroll) I immediately fell in love with that "nordic" style. I appreciate that peaceful atmosphere, it can be a refined rustic style, detailed but minimal at the same time. I love the worn, shabby furniture and the typical country accents and shades.
I found the book very interesting, there are sections for each room of the house (entry and patio included) with pictures of different homes. There are special pages with yummy recipes and sections about flowers and paint.
Pictures are very pretty and inspiring. I love the fact that you can actually "paint" with accessories on a white canvas, made itself of different layers and tones...
I can't really read german, but oh well... I can still look at the beautiful picures :))

This book is truly inspiring, I love it beacuse

the style is quite simple, ruffles and lace are used but only as accents on distressed materials.

All decorations are old flea market or brocante finds and most of the furniture is painted old furniture

which is great because if you like it you can get the look without spending a fortune.

There is a very interesting mix of influences; american country, continental french, scandinavian styles are blended in a perfectly balanced way.

My home is very small, but i have been feeling the urge to have a little space for my creative projects...
After measuring it i chose a corner of my bedroom with lots of light (it is by a large window) and i finally bought the desk and the stool from Ikea to fit. At first i wanted to buy an old desk but didn't seem to find such a small one.
The desk is very basic so I customized the drawer with a adhesive lace tape :)

I found a clever compact ironing board at Ikea too, wich is very useful to press fabric.
I think i will be adding a nice lamp on the desk so I will be able to work at night too...
and when i'm not sewing i can sit down at the desk, have a cup of tea and read my craft books.
I'm so happy i managed!! :))

It is so easy to fall in love with this style... so nice and relaxed.
From a western point of view I can easily recognize myself in this "world":
i love country style, floral prints, lace, onepiece dresses and the vintage feel.
This style has now a name: it is called "Mori Girl" and i think it is a
very intriguing japanese subculture.
I'm fascinated by japanese fashion and its eclectic style and I remember studying some very interesting books about it when I was following cultural studies classes at uni.

In my last trip to London in february I saw this book in the Anthropologie store and it looked so interesting i was going to buy it. Then i thought it was better to wait (I aready had several mad shopping sessions) and see if I could find it on the internet later...
The little thing was delivered to my door and is making me very happy! It is so interesting that even if I'm super tired after work i have to read some. There are plenty of informations if you want to know more about vintage clothes and fashion history, it is very helpful if you have doubts on dating and sizes. There are even caring tips. I would reccomend it!

And talking about things with an history I bought this dress in Spitalfields market in London form an italian girl who said she bought it in San Francisco. Cool, isn't it? :)
It doesn't look amazing in the photo (sorry about that) but i can assure you that once weared it is lovely. Perfect for spring.

Last but not least this very famous book featured everywhere in blogland. It has been in my wish list for ages, now i finally managed to buy it in a very cute compact paperback version.
It reminds me that "one person's junk is someone's else trasure". Sure!

You can find this series from Gustavsberg too. It was designed (in the 60's-50's, I guess?) by one of Sweden's most important designers and illustrators, Stig Lindberg who has been working with the famous porcelain company. It has been relaunched now. Isn't it cool?
I like cups and saucers, mugs and bowls, they're so cute! Perfect for everyday use and to diplay.
When you wake up and you feel a bit low they can make your day brighter.
Unfortunately my my cupboard is already very full, so I have to be patient and wait until I'll move to a bigger place.
Ah! :)

Bad computer crash

This is what has been happening... twice a day, or maybe more? My computer is very unreliable so I haven't been posting at all on this little blog. This makes me very frustrated because I have to admit I'm used to use my pc a lot for every sort of things. I absolutely need to fix it.
On the other hand I'm very excited because I'm working on a new project with a friend of mine that will involve design, arts, crafts... luckily my friend is very clever and good at computer graphics so we're working at her place. Hopefully we'll be done soon. Stay tuned! ;)

New Camera

I finally managed to buy a new camera, I have been waiting for years for this moment!
I'm very enthusiastic of my new Canon Eos 1000 D and as a newbie to digital reflex photography I have to say that this little jewel is quite easy to use. I'm posting the very first snaps I made from my apartment french window because I cought a very bad flu and I can't go outside (good occasion to study the manual, though).
Hopefully with time I will be posting better photos on this little blog! ;)

The air is getting chill and I just love this time of the year (apart from seasonal viruses :)), today I'm feeling better, no fever for now but I still feel weak; as I'm off from work it is a perfect time to be a bit of a couch potato and for planning next projects.

My livingroom is the room of my apartment I prefer at the moment.
I've been constantly making little (budget) changes but it has made a very big difference; a new couch cover, cushions with floral motives and a few wall decorations (only a wallpaper sample and some little pictures I made for now, but I will add E. Martin's beautiful print too).
I've been adding some small vases with fake and true flowers keep the atmosphere very colorful.

A little decoration idea I have been adding too. It is very useful if you have small objects collections and you don't know how to display them.

Last but not least some of my latest reading; this book is amazing and hopefully I will learn more about blogging! ;)

Monday shopping

I'm decorating my walls with some nice pictures and wallpaer scraps
but I wanted something unique that suited my mood too... as you can see in the picture

The black apple.
The talented shop owner Emily Martin is one of my favourite artist
around and I adore both her blogs.

I don't feel guilty at all especially when items are so cute :p

The Joy of Homemade

I've been homecanning with a friend of mine this week; it was sticky and smelly and hot but we were very proud of ourselves and we enjoyed it a lot.
The best of seasonal aubergines, zucchini and other vegetables are preserved for our winter snacks. We made a green tomato chutney using a recipe found on Country Living; it smelled and tasted terrific and I'm wondering how delicious it will be with a nice slice of cheese or meat.
Next week it will be marmalade and jams turn...
I'm thinking about winter weekends, when the weather will be dark and wet,
and all you want to do is to stay in with your girlfriends for a hot cup of tea or infuse, have a slice of cake with marmalade and endlessy chat and laugh about stupid things of the past summer ;)

... is on my balcony!
I'm officially on holidays from work and all I want to do is to enjoy the summer and my free time. I created this little corner on my lilliputian balcony to have dinner outside and I'm so glad I did because it is a very nice and quiet place to sit down and make my creative "things" too.
We live in a flat in the heart of the town, but luckily there's not much traffic in our street. Now that the weather is getting too hot here is very good to be able to enjoy some breeze in the evening.

Going to make supper now ;)

Plastic fantastic

I love plastic objects with a vintage feel and I though I made a little photo selection for the blog.
Well, I'm not sure.... but I guess plastic is a bit unpopular because is not exactly a green material....

so I just wanted to remind myself and to you that is very important to reuse and recycle!
Plus it is fun, isn't it?

Thank you Jordiegirl for this award, Cinnamon Girl is a brand new blog so I think this will be very supporting for me to go on posting. Although I don't post about my life very much. Hopefully I'll get to know other very nice people like you!

So... now I suppose I have to tell you some interesting things about me (forgive me, I'm so bad at it!):

1. I wanted to be a designer or a stylist when I was a kid and I wanted go to art school, but I was not allowed to: this is mainly the reason I have this blog!
2. I collect everything and I have an obsession for shoes and barrettes but what I like most are vintage radios.
3. I used to smoke 20 cigarettes a day but I quit. Two years now and I feel much better.
4. I've been in a band when I was young.
5. I'm turning 34 in november and I hate it because I'd like to be forever young (...).
6. I suffer from depression and anxiety and I have to deal with this every day. I'm taking farmaceuticals, but I'm slowly decreasing.
7. I had problems at school when my grandma died, and I lost all my hair.
8. Now I've got big hair :) and I like to colour them red-ish.
9. I have a good job but I don't like it very much (shame on me, but that's the truth).
10. Honestly all I dream about is to go and live in the country in a lovely English style cottage with my boyfriend and a dog :)

As I mentioned in this post last week I've been purchasing the book Wallpaper Projects: More than 50 Craft and Design Ideas for Your Home, from Accents to Art By Derek Fagerstrom and Lauren Smith. The book arrived in no time (the day before yesterday) and I was very happy to receive it.
The projects are very interesting and they are very contemporary although with a vintage appeal. I just love it!

Even if it's sunday today I woke up very early... what can I do?
I just tought It would be nice to share some nice stuff I bought this month.
1. The mint tin container I found in Portobello, London.
2.3. The lovely recipe book I found at Borders, London.
It is from Paperchase wich sells lovely stationery, paper goods and bags. Unfortunately they don't deliver to continental Europe, so I'll have to remember next time I go and visit UK.
